"A wonderful cross stitched surprise"

My birthday was last month but I didn't have the chance to see my dear friend Rosy until yesterday here at home where we are spending our easter vacations;
And what was my surprise with this beautiful cross stitch present that she made for me. It's a lovely sewing room with quilts and tiny details all over the place.
Did you see the pretty sewing machine and the little scissors, the pincushion and all the small things in it?

All the time she invest in this work tells me what I already know, that she is a  truly friend for me as I'm for her. Now we're living in different cities but our friendship is still intact.

"Best friends are like stars,
 You don't see them always
but you always
 know they're still there"

Thank you I loved it and and thanks for being my friend too.

"Home is where the heart is" Wallquilt

home is...

This is one of the first wallquilts I've made. I love the phrase, specially now that I'm away from home. The phrase was machine embroidered in a small place at the mall; I didn't do much hand embroidery by the time I made it. The diamonds in burgundy fabric from the corners of the center wreath didn't came perfect neither the lateral rectangles, all the parts were to small to join for a beginner quilter like me by that time; Anyhow I love it and hoping you think so too.

"Country Thread Spool Doll"

This is the first doll I made with thread spools;  it wasn't that complicated. I pieced together all the spools  with a thin cord, about 10-12  inches long, I fold it in half, put a glue drop in the wooden bead and insert the folded edge of the cord in the bead's hole and then puting the spools  together passing two times in both directions  in the arms, making a knot at the end, and cuting the ends, then passing through the body with the two strands of cord and then making the legs with one strand each and knotting at the end  too. Well maybe is better to understand me if you look at the photo.

Making the dress and the apron was very simple too. I cuted rectangles of fabric and then made the sewing and ruffling of the hems to attach the dress and finally embellish it with ribbon, buttons and yarn hair.

Hoping you like it and inspire you to make your own. Until next time...

"Baby Quilts for two beautiful boys"

When I was living in Palenque there wasn't a place where I could get 100 % cotton fabrics for my patchwork projects.
Palenque is a very small town, even though is growing very fast, I still can't , but I certainly could find "vichy cotton fabrics" in all colors, so this is what I used in this two baby quilts I made for my sister`s boys, my nephews Nico and and Alex.

This is Nico's quilt who is my godson too.

I used red and blue vichy fabrics and plain white fabric, and as you see I used two different blocks; the pinwheel and the boat and I really like the final result.                                Here's a closer lok of the blocks.

Y esta es la colchita de Alex.
And this is Alejandros's baby quilt

As you see I used alot of diferent colors of vichy fabric and it was made with twenty-four machine apliques blocks, and I feel it came out very suitable for a baby with all  that sweet colors and beautiful apliques.

Aqui hay fotos de las aplicaciones.
Here are photos of all the blocks.

 A car, a chick,a train, a house, a duck, a bear, a sun, a flower...

 ...a ball, a boy, a cup, a pear, a butterfly, a hen, a fish, a dog...

...an elephant, a pig,a boat, a mouse, a star, a moon, a heart, and an apple

This is my daugther's bedquilt, it was the first one I make, it took me several months because I wasn't very fast with my handquilting. At first, the fabric I choose didn't convinced me a lot and my daugther Bárbara would have preferred more pink on it. Maybe that's the reason why it took me so long to finish it. But once I saw all the blocks together I started loving it.

I love the way all the lines intersec with each other forming crosses. The quilt is made of two simple blocks and the trick is combine light colors with the dark ones, or in this case I combined pinks-yellow instead dark colors and green-blue instead light colors. and thats is how it came out...

block 1

block 2
Here is the block's diagram, in it you can see how combine light ( L ) and dark colors ( D ).
I guess that you could even use different fabrics for each block just alternating dark and light colors and it would make a nice quilt. I think that it can be a great way to use your excess of fabric after several quilts done.

Light and dark colors ( colores claros-L y colores oscuros-D)

With the remaining fabric, I made a wallquilt that I really love and a tote bag for Barbie too. Here are the photos.
